Bishop Jane to Lead Women of the Bible RetreatSt. George's College, Jerusalem, June 5-14 Bishop Jane Alexander will help lead a Women of the Bible pilgrimage in Jerusalem, from June 5-14, 2018. The 10-day course, offered by St. George's College, tells the ancient stories of women in the Bible and their struggle, joy and tragedy. The itinerary will take participants from Jerusalem to Galilee, then back through the Jezreel valley and Samaria. St. George's new promotional video features a member of our diocese. Halcyon Clark of St. Andrew's, Camrose travelled to the Holy Land in celebration of her 50th birthday last Easter. She says she would highly recommend the pilgrimage through St. Georges. The interim Dean of the college is Canon Dr. Richard LeSueur, who served for 38 years as an Anglican priest in western and central Canada and in the Diocese of Jerusalem. Willie Littlechild: Breaking New Ground TogetherStar of the North Retreat Centre, March 7th Chief Willie Littlechild was a member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which held its last regional gathering in Edmonton March 2015 and helped craft the Ninety-four Calls to Action that are the result of all the commission’s work. Willie Littlechild served as chief of his community of Maskwacis, has worked with the United Nations on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and has travelled the world promoting reconciliation. From his unique perspective, he will share the challenge posed by the Calls to Action, the progress that has been made, and how we as individuals, churches and organizations can be more effective in our response. Indigenous People and the Christian FaithConcordia Conference Explores A New Way Forward The "Indigenous People and the Christian Faith: A New Way Forward" Conference, hosted by the Canadian Centre for Scholarship and the Christian Faith, will feature keynote speaker Dr. Cheryl Bear, an award-winning musician and faculty associate with Regent College in Vancouver from the Nadleh Whut’en First Nation in British Columbia. She and her family, in a camper, have visited over 600 indigenous communities in both the USA and Canada. The conference will also feature the artwork of many indigenous artists, including Alexander Angnaluak, whose colourful artwork is displayed on the conference poster. Alex is Inuit and the Governor General of Canada’s recipient for the National Aboriginal Role Model award. Register on eventbrite. Included in registration fee are snacks, lunch, banquet and parking. World Day of PrayerFriday, March 02 at 1:30PM On the first Friday in March Christians from more than 170 countries will come together in spirit, uniting to pray for relevant issues affecting women and children. The World Day of Prayer traces its roots to the 19th century when Christian women of Canada and the United States became involved in missions at home and worldwide. The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) seeks new member nominations for the PWRDF Board of Directors: The Board attempts to reflect the diversity, gender and geographical balance of Canada. This year we would particularly encourage the nomination of lay people. Terms are for three years.
