Lawn-Chair Church at Whispering SpruceStory and Photos by Sharon Pasula Lawn-chair Church sounded too intriguing to miss, so I drove out to Pigeon Lake on July 30th and visited the Rev. Maralyn Benay at site 23, Whispering Spruce Campground. Besides the relaxed and informal ambience, the thing I appreciated the most was that the service is held outside. It is in a gazebo, but still outside. Another highlight was that I had the privilege and pleasure to present a smudge at the start of the service. |
Lawn-chair Church - Interview Link
My spirit was refreshed and I plan to attend again when Rev. Maralyn returns from Scotland. In case you were thinking about going, hold off for a couple weeks. When she comes back you may hear her ‘speaking Scottish.’ I (Sharon) interviewed Rev. Maralyn about Lawn-chair Church and you can watch it at https://youtu.be/al05YaTE2oc Is there lawn chair church where you camp? |

IndiginewsNational Day of Prayer and Mindfulness Turtle Lodge International Centre for Indigenous Education and Wellness in Manitoba invites religious and spiritual communities across Canada to a shared time of prayer. With the myriad of challenges facing humanity - climate change, violence and war, mental health and addiction crises, the ongoing marginalization and poverty among First Peoples - we need more than our sharpest minds to solve the problems before us. We need the Spirit. As First Peoples of this land, Indigenous Elders invite citizens of all religious and spiritual traditions to come together for a National Day of Prayer and Mindfulness and to pray together in solidarity and unity. The Day of Prayer begins August 6 at 9:00 am at the East Coast of Canada and follows the path of the sun traveling from East to West. Please join us with your moment of prayer, ceremony or mindfulness at 9:00 am local time in your region. Stand with us and pray with us!" POSTER

God Incident in Small-town ParishStory and Photo by the Rev. Sheila Hagan-Bloxham On the 23rd of July, a hot, mid-summer Sunday in rural Onoway, parishioners were treated to an unexpected delight and encouragement. The parish musicians were all away and music was to be sung acapella. This fact alone does not make for an extraordinary situation. But with an interim priest running the show, this Sunday at St. John’s would turn out to be anything but typical.
