Edmonton Food Bank OutreachEdmonton Parishes Distribute Food Hampers to Families in Need What do the parishes of St. Luke, St. Mary, St. Matthias and St. Michael and All Angels have in common? Every week, these four parishes distribute food hampers to families in need for Edmonton’s Food Bank. St. Luke's and St. Mary's have been food bank partners for years, while St. Michael and All Angels and St. Matthias started in February and June of 2017. Together they distribute hampers to more than 75 families each week. Through the hamper program, Edmonton’s Food Bank provides assistance to almost 24,000 individuals, 40% being children, every month. There would not be enough seats at a sold-out hockey game at Rogers Place (which seats 16,641 individuals), for all the people who receive assistance through this program. “Light in the Darkness”A Missional Idea for Halloween Here is an idea that might spark our imaginations to engage with our communities at Halloween: For the last few years, Andrew has taken his backyard fire pit to the front yard on Halloween night. He has a bench and chairs around the fire pit and serves wine and gives out candy to the kids. It's a simple way to connect with his neighbours that works and is welcomed by the adults and children of the neighbourhood. Have fun being a neighbour and connecting to people. If you don’t have a portable fire pit, perhaps you could find a neighbour who does and do it together, or buy one - or come up with your own creative way to engage your neighbours on this evening when they are coming to your house anyway!
