Opportunity to Serve StudentsBake for the Worship Room! Anglican Student Ministries at the U of A is asking parishes to prepare desserts to be served at the Worship Room (instead of full meals as in past years). You can make anything from cookies and squares, to pies and cakes, which can be dropped off at St. George’s (11733–87 Avenue, Edmonton) on Sunday before the service which begins at 7:00 pm. Or, contact the Rev. Sarah Holmstrom at (780) 289-6781 or by email to come and pick up your creation. Typically, we have anywhere from 12-20 students. Thanks to folks from St. Paul, Edmonton and St. Augustine of Canterbury in Edmonton who have offered to help. Dates still available for this year are October 22, November 5 and 26, December 3 and 10. Bannock and a MovieLunch-time: October 27 The October instalment of 'Bannock and a Movie' is a 25 minute film by Bearpaw Media Production (2009) titled: Wahkohtowin - The relationship between Cree People and Natural Law. Wahkohtowin means “everything is related”. It is one of the basic principles of Cree Natural Law. Traditionally laws are passed through the Cree language in song, prayer and storytelling. Cree Elders explain that by following the teachings of Wahkohtowin—individuals, communities and societies will be healthier. St. David's Celebrates New Ministry
Members of St. David’s, Edmonton and clergy of the diocese celebrated a new ministry on October 12, as Bishop Jane Alexander inducted the Rev. Dr. Renée Desjardins rector of the parish. Church wardens welcomed their new priest with the keys to the church and various symbols of the ministry of the whole people of God, including: canons of the diocese, a Bible, a prayer book, water, oil, bread and wine. Growing Closer in Our Common Mission28th Annual Strathcona County Ecumenical Mission St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sherwood Park extended warm hospitality to the Strathcona ecumenical community on October 16, welcoming Anglican, Lutheran, Moravian, United Church members and others for afternoon tea and dessert. The Most Rev. Multi-church Choral Music Workshop
Dr. Melanie Turgeon, Associate Professor of Music and Choral Director at The King's University, led a choral music workshop at St. Timothy's, Edmonton, on October 14. Choir members from several churches including: St. Luke's, St George by the U of A, St. Mary's and First Baptist Church, Edmonton, learned four pieces which they performed, accompanied by pianist Adrienne Lloyd, Sunday morning at St. Timothy’s. The special choir will perform the same four pieces at St. Luke's on October 29 and at then at St. George’s in November. The video, shared by a member of St. Tim’s on Facebook, is of the last anthem. Reformation Anniversary Common Prayer ServiceMonday, October 30 at 7:00PM In the spirit of ecumenism and to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, the Catholic Archdiocese and the Anglican Diocese invite you to join them in a Common Prayer Service to be held at All Saints' Anglican Cathedral in Edmonton. The liturgy was used by Pope Francis and the Lutheran World Federation in Lund, Sweden, in October 2016. Clergy are invited to vest in alb and red stole, and to participate in the procession at the beginning of the service. If you plan to process, please arrive to the church no later than 6:30 pm. Remembrance Day Prayer Service and Prayer Walk for Peacesponsored by the Edmonton Ecumenical Peace Network and Mennonite Central Committee Please consider attending two special events on November 11, 2017. First, an Interdenominational Prayer Service at McDougall United Church, 10025 101 Street, Edmonton at 6:00 pm. This is a Christian service but all people who long for peace are welcome to attend. Second, at 7:00 pm, participants will gather at City Hall in downtown Edmonton for the 8th Annual Interfaith Prayer Walk for Peace. There will be four stops on the walk. The time of remembrance, reflection, and prayer will be led by members of four different faith communities. Afterward everyone is welcome to return to McDougall Church for coffee and hot chocolate and a time of fellowship.
